Layer 1: National IJPP
The subsidised IJPP product can combine intercity bus, rail, and selected city transport. Under the latest operator guidance, eligibility does not depend on the distance between your residence and the place of education. The older two-kilometre rule no longer applies.
The subsidised period for students runs from 1 October to 30 September of the academic year. Students must have valid status and must not be regularly employed, self-employed, or registered as unemployed under the excluded conditions.
Current reference prices shown by the operator are €25 for the monthly national intercity product and €200 for the annual product. Verify prices for the new study year.
Online application
- Wait until student status is visible in the official education records.
- Submit the application through eUprava using an accepted electronic identity.
- Wait for the positive decision, not only the submission confirmation.
- Register at the selected IJPP sales portal.
- Order or activate the transport card.
- Select the monthly, annual, ten-journey, or city combination.
- Complete the purchase and activate the product as instructed.
At a sales point, identity and EMŠO may allow the operator to retrieve the necessary status data.
Layer 2: City transport
Ljubljana
Use a personal Urbana card for term products. Choose the Urbana card linked with the IJPP app, because it also unlocks BicikeLJ, Ljubljana City Library membership, the castle funicular, and park-and-ride, which the plain IJPP card does not. LPP allows transfers within the current transfer window after first validation.
For 2025/2026, student status renews from 21 September and the monthly-ticket pre-sale opens on the 21st of the prior month; a monthly ticket is valid until the first working day of the next month. You can buy electronically on eUprava with an e-identity, or in person at Potniski center LPP, Slovenska cesta 56, where you now need only an ID because the data is pulled from your EMSO. After buying, validate on the bus (at least 30 minutes between purchase and validation). If you live outside Ljubljana, you can buy the national Slovenija intercity monthly ticket for €25.
Maribor
Use Marprom for city buses and the current MBajk system for bicycle sharing.
Koper and Primorska
Check the selected IJPP city combination, local bus routes, and coastal intercity connections.
Nova Gorica
Check Slovenian local transport and cross-border connections separately. An IJPP product does not automatically solve every journey into Italy.
Celje
Use the current Nomago city-transport information and rail connections.
Layer 3: Bicycle sharing
- BicikeLJ (Ljubljana): €3 yearly or €1 weekly, unlimited trips with the first 60 minutes of each trip free. Dock within 60 minutes to keep riding for free.
- MBajk (Maribor): the same platform and pricing as BicikeLJ, €3 yearly or €1 weekly, first 60 minutes free.
- Nomago Bikes (Ljubljana e-bikes): €30 student annual subscription, or €25 with an ISIC card. The first 30 minutes of each rental are free, then about €1,30 per further 30 minutes. Register in the app, add a payment method, and enter the coupon NAZAJVSOLO to buy the student subscription.
An ISIC student card unlocks the cheaper Nomago rate and many other discounts, so it is worth having. Treat all prices and promotion codes as check-current information.
