Good to knowThis guide is put together by students, not by professionals or official bodies. It is meant to help you and your parents through enrolment and settling into life in Slovenia. Some details may change or become outdated, so always check the official sources and confirm anything important with the relevant institutions. We take no responsibility for wrong, outdated or misunderstood information — but we are always glad to help. If you spot something that is not right, please tell us in the “Was this page helpful?” box at the bottom of the page.

Healthcare by study city

Ljubljana

The Student Health Centre for University of Ljubljana students is at Aškerčeva cesta 4. Services listed by the university include general and family medicine, gynaecology, dentistry, oral hygiene, X-ray, and a diagnostic laboratory. Psychiatry and clinical psychology are provided at the student settlement in Rožna dolina, Svetčeva ulica 9, Block VIII. Appointments are required. The main emergency centre is at UKC Ljubljana, Zaloška cesta 7.

Maribor

Students should use the current University of Maribor and local health-centre guidance. The university specifically warns that many students live away from their existing personal doctor, so healthcare access should be arranged before a problem occurs.

Koper and Primorska

The University Clinic UP operates within ZD Koper, Dellavallejeva ulica 3, Koper. University of Primorska also offers free psychological counselling through its university service.

Nova Gorica and Ajdovščina

There is no separate general student dispensary. Students use a general or school clinic and may choose a doctor for the study period under the applicable rules. ZD Nova Gorica: Rejčeva ulica 4, Nova Gorica, +386 5 338 3200. ZD Ajdovščina: Tovarniška cesta 3, Ajdovščina, +386 5 369 3000. The university guide lists a 24-hour emergency service, but hours and organisation should be checked before use.

Celje and smaller centres

Use the local health centre, university or faculty support contact, ZZZS provider search, and emergency services. Do not copy Ljubljana-specific student-clinic instructions into every city.

Mental-health support by university

  • University of Ljubljana: Psychosocial Counselling
  • University of Maribor: mental-health and successful-study resources
  • University of Primorska: free Psychological Counselling UP
  • University of Nova Gorica: student mental-health guidance and tutoring

For immediate danger, call 112. University counselling is not an emergency service.
